Procedures for Starting a New Chapter

Thank you for your interest in establishing a new chapter of the Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity at your college/university.  Membership in the Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity includes many benefits such as professional development and leadership skills, recognition for academic achievement, outstanding service and leadership.  Many new Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity chapters stem from a successful major's club, however that is not a requirement.  

Criteria for Establishing a New Chapter:

  • The college/university must offer a major and/or minor in a kinesiology-related field such as health, physical education, recreation, dance, athletic training, exercise science, sport management, allied health, rehabilitative science, and/or a related field.
  • The minimum admission requirements for students (undergraduate and graduate) include enrollment for at least one semester and a minimum of a "C" average in all coursework (chapters have the autonomy to raise these standards for academic performance and/or include a community service requirement for admission).
  • A faculty member from the college/university must be willing to serve as a Chapter Advisor.

Membership Fees:

  • Initiation Fee = $20.00 (paid at the time of initiation)
  • Future Professional Membership = $25.00 (2-year membership)
  • Professional Membership = $45.00 (2-year membership)
  • Life Membership = $300.00 (at the time of initiation)
  • Life Membership = $450.00 (after initiation)
  • Retired Member = $20.00 (2-year membership)
  • Fraternity Pin = $15.00 (optional)
  • Honor Cord = $15.00 (optional)

Requirements to Formally Petition for a New Chapter:

  • A completed/signed Petition Form.
  • The name, email address, major course of study, extracurricular activities, and class standing for each student member of the petitioning group.
  • The name and email address for each faculty or staff member of the petitioning group.
  • A brief history of the university and academic unit from which the petition is originating.
  • A letter of recommendation from the chairperson of the department from which the petition is originating.
  • A letter of agreement and support from the faculty or staff agreeing to serve as the Chapter Advisor.
  • A completed Petition Signature Form.
  • $125.00 Charter Fee (will be refunded if chapter is not approved).
